HADLEY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) – It’s incredibly rare with roughly one out of every 105,000 pregnant cows giving birth to triplets, but those odds have arrived at Barstow’s Longview Farm in Hadley.
The farm said they’ve only seen the incredibly rare triple-birth just once before and sadly not all the calves survived.
“Twins are not uncommon, so when there were two in the hospital pen, we thought she was done. Much to our surprise, out came another!” The farm wrote on social media.
Now the farm will focus on giving their new babies all the care and nutrition they need to grow up to be strong and healthy, just like Mama.
“The typical Holstein dairy calf weighs around 90lbs at birth. The triplets are tiny, weighing in around 35lbs each!” The farm wrote. “… we expect these girls might need a little extra attention.”
The trio of ladies have their own pen with access to a shared auto-calf feeder staff and have made themselves quite at home.
The girls are still without names but the family said they’re currently brain storming up a list of names that all start with the letter N.
