Safe Milk Begins on the Farm
Dairy Month Lecture Series
Presenter: Caroline Barstow, DVM, Hess McWilliams Veterinary Services. Dr. Barstow graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2010 and Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.
Food production veterinarians have the special challenge of balancing the best health care for their animal patients, keeping the client’s business profitable, and upholding public health. Get an inside look at what a large animal veterinarian can do for the cows and their farmer. Start to understand how large animal veterinarians work with the dairy industry to keep the food we consume safe while keeping the cows healthy.
Free wagon ride farm tour begins at Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery and will take approximately 1 hour. Tour is on a first come first serve basis.
Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery and Barstow’s Longview Farm is owned and operated by sixth and seventh generation Barstow’s. Nestled at the base of Skinner State Park and right alongside the Connecticut River, the dairy farm has been a part of the landscape since 1806.
Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery offers homemade baked goods and pies, lunch from local ingredients, farm fresh produce, farm raised beef, ice cream, and scenic views of protected farmland from the porch and dining room. This family friendly store is open daily year round. Come meet your neighborhood dairy farmer!
