Live Virtual Farm Tour at Barstow’s Longview Farm

October 13, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

Free

Length: 30 minutes (10-10:30 a.m. Eastern)
Recommended Audience: Grades 3-5

Using video chat technology, students will get a behind the scenes look into life on a New England dairy farm.

Students will join dairy farmer Denise Barstow for a tour of her family’s farm and learn how dairy farmers take care of their cows from the time they’re born to when they join the milking herd. Students will meet the calves, tour through the barns, and will get an up-close look at milking robots.

Denise Barstow is a 7th generation family member at Barstow’s Longview Farm. The Barstow family has farmed on their land in Hadley, MA since 1806 and remains committed to caring for their community, land, animals, and the planet. Today the dairy farm has milking robots, an anaerobic digester that converts cow manure into an energy source, and a dairy store and bakery for their community. Barstow’s is a member of the Cabot Cheese Cooperative where they turn milk into award winning cheeses and dairy products.

Attend the tour and be entered to win one of 100 Cabot Cheese prize packs from our friends at Cabot Creamery Cooperative.
